ABOUT US

Who we are
Everyone at the Wabash Valley Recovery Center, including staff members, leadership, and board members, have lived experience of recovery from substance use and have gone through training, testing, and certification to learn how to effectively provide peer recovery support to others.
We truly believe that in order to effectively serve people with substance use, we must include individuals with lived experience in every aspect of our organization.
We understand everyone’s journey is different and we honor all pathways to recovery. The team at the WVRC are all people with lived experience of recovery who have the unique ability to connect, listen, and support without judgement.
We are here to guide anyone seeking to initiate or sustain long-term recovery, whatever that looks like to you. We are not here to define your recovery, and we support a range of strategies all rooted in harm reduction principles.
Peer Recovery Support
According to SAMHSA.gov, Peer support workers are people who have been successful in the recovery process who help others experiencing similar situations. Through shared understanding, respect, and mutual empowerment, peer support workers help people become and stay engaged in the recovery process and reduce the likelihood of relapse.
Peer support services can effectively extend the reach of treatment beyond the clinical setting into the everyday environment of those seeking a successful, sustained recovery process. Peer support workers engage in a wide range of activities.
These include:
-
Advocating for people in recovery
-
Sharing resources and building skills
-
Building community and relationships
-
Leading recovery groups
-
Mentoring and setting goals
